We are also proud to have former DU Pioneers captain Nick Larson joining our game, along with Andrei Krivokrasov, a four-year star at Elmira College and the Director of the all-new Athletic Republic training facility inside Big Bear Ice Arena.

Some of our other celebrity players this year including Avalanche play-by-play announcer Mike Haynes from Altitude TV, Uncle Nastyfrom KBPI, Jesse James from 92.5 The Wolf, Alan Gionet and Brian Maass from CBS News 4 and even Jake Schroeder, who will be singing both national anthems prior to the game.

But there is one player joining us this year that we are extremely honored to have, bringing a deep sense of tradition and pride from the world of college hockey to our Skate with the Stars experience. We are pleased to have Bill LeCaine, a former Pittsburgh Penguins and distinguished alumni of the North Dakota Fighting Sioux joining our game.

Bill is believed to be the very first native Sioux to play for North Dakota while he was a freshman during the 1958-59 season. He was even recognized as such with a ceremonial puck drop at a Fighting Sioux hockey game back in October, signifying his proud heritage and influence on the Fighting Sioux program in front of thousands of fans.

We are so excited to have such an awesome group of celebrities coming together on Saturday afternoon to raise awareness about the NHL’s fight against cancer! Please be sure to visit our silent auction upstairs for information on the following:

1. How to bid on a roster spot to play in the game
2. How you can make a small donation for any player
3. If your player(s) score a goal, you win a prize!
4. Info on full-service tables to watch the game upstairs

An Avalanche of Support

Two full seasons of our Avalanche Guild programs have now come and gone. That means another 25 After-Hours games and another Battle for the Banner shootout tournament has transpired before, during or after Avalanche games at Pepsi Center over the course of the last seven months.

Things happen so fast with these events that we hardly even have time to look back and appreciate all of the teams that join us on the ice. Yet the truth remains that none of our programswould even be possible without having the Avalanche on our side.

And even though it was a serious uphill battle for the Avs this year, what happened has happened. It honestly doesn’t matter any more. There’s already a big reason to be excited for next year’s team and it comes in the form of the 3rd-overall draft pick in late-June.

So in return for posting this story on their website showing their support, we’re proud to bring in a number of different Avalanche items to use as prizes for players and fans. Here’s just some of the things you could go home with at our second-annual event:

* 2009-10 regular season Avs tickets
* Team-signed Avs sticks
* Reebok fitted Avs hats
* Replica CCM Avs jerseys
* Avs leather jackets
* Messenger/laptop bags
* Equipment bags
* Keychains

Some of these items, including others not listed will be available in our silent auction as well!

Their support of our charity hockey festival has been nothing but pure class and continues theirlong line of great community-related programs. Everyone knows that the Avalanche are one of the premier teams in the NHL when it comes to their interactive programs, so please take a moment to check out their Community Events section and Fan Development section to see how they support local hockey.

KBPI Hails Hockey in the Rockies

A note from Justin the Guild Master…

I have been extremely fortunate to be a weekly guest on KBPI 106.7 FM for almost four full years as Uncle Nasty’s official Colorado Avalanche informant. Thanks to his long-time passion for hockey and his growing interest in actually playing, I was in turn given a chance to unleash my often furled, frustrated and furious diatribes on all things Avalanche hockey just 5-10 minutes prior to all of their games.

And after picking up a bunch of AWESOME prizes from the station for our Quest 2 festival, I have to say that Uncle Nasty, Jerf and Matt Need are above and beyond the baddest mothers in all of Colorado. Check out some of the schwag they dropped in my hands for the event:

* Bud Light stick signed by ADAM FOOTE!!!
* Tickets for the following shows:

NAPALM DEATH
TESTAMENT
NINE INCH NAILS
JANE’S ADDICTION
SEVENDUST
MOTLEY CRUE
* Limited edition PEARL JAM CD/DVD
* New METALLICA and STATIC-X CD’s!!

As a major fan of (Scandinavian) metal myself, I have been a proud member of Nasty’s Metal Militia for a number of years, way before I ever started talking Avs hockey on his show! So even though my KBPI nickname has traversed through the mud from the lowly, yet perfectly-fitting Hockey Nerd to the not-so-glorious Five-Hole (After Nasty somehow scored a goal on me at a drop-in) to the now shining beacon of acceptance, Glove-Side, I will do just about anything to repay the station for their support of The Hockey Guild over these last four years.

And if that means bringing some insight to the Uncle Nasty show about the Avalanche, then that makes the deal much more sweeter. What a steal, right?! Especially when I get to end every single game-preview segment with the almighty,

“HAIL NASTY…SCREW YOU MATT!! AND GOOOOOOO AVALANCHE!!!!”
